Fuel Your Body Launch a Hit with Joondalup Seniors!

The fifth Move Improve Remove campaign from Stay On Your Feet® – Fuel Your Body – launched without a hitch last week at the Lake Joondalup National Lifestyle Village.

Over 60 residents attended the launch event and enjoyed a wonderful array of healthy food and drink while also learning the importance of eating a well-balanced diet, drinking plenty of water and drinking alcohol safely in the prevention of falls.

The Stay On Your Feet® team were joined by Accredited Practicing Dietitian Christina Pollard, who has over 30 years of experience within the WA Department of Health, to share the latest information about healthy eating with the audience.

Christina explained that short term fad diets will not dramatically improve our health or melt the fat away. The good news is that the prevention of various chronic diseases, sustainable weight loss and the prevention of falls can be achieved by following the Australian Dietary Guidelines. This involves eating plenty of fruit, vegetables and whole grains as well as sufficient meat and dairy (or their alternatives) while limiting highly processed foods rich in sugar and fat.

Stay On Your Feet® volunteer Jo Godeke shared a personal story with residents, raising awareness of the importance of looking after your health, remaining active and engaged as you get older.

Throughout the morning, attendees enjoyed a range of informative and engaging activities to learn more about the importance of safely preparing and eating healthy meals for their general health and wellbeing.

Representatives from the City of Wanneroo, Bladder and Bowel Health Australia and Vario Health Clinic shared information and advice about food safety, continence and physical activity with residents.
