Over 50% of falls in WA occur within the home or the immediate home surroundings. Fortunately, there are key things we can do to reduce our risk of having a fall in and around our home.
Hazards can come in a variety of forms, so it is important to regularly check your home for potential hazards. The Stay On Your Feet® Home Safety Checklist can assist you identify potential hazards associated with your;
- Flooring,
- Lighting,
- Stairs, steps and ladders,
- Walkways,
- Furniture and storage, and
- Areas outside your home.
If you have identified hazards within your home and need some help to remove the hazards ask a family member, friend or health care professional for help to complete the actions within your action plan. Additionally, your GP can provide advice regarding home modifications and assistive technology to help you stay on your feet.
