Stay On Your Feet® program highlights 2019/20

Injury Matters is proud to deliver the Stay On Your Feet® program, on behalf of the Western Australian Department of Health, for the previous 19 years. During the 2019/2020 financial year the Stay On Your Feet® program continued to deliver innovative strategies that support community engagement and systemic change for falls prevention and active ageing.

Aligning to the programs key message, Move Improve Remove, two campaigns were implemented over the last twelve months, Move Your Body (September – November) and Improve Your Health (March – May). Each campaign involved a variety of activities to increase older adults awareness of how to prevent falls and to support WA’s diverse falls prevention sector implement falls prevention activities.

The program achieved significant growth across all projects over the last 12 months and developed the first Stay On Your Feet® mass media television advertisement. This advertisement pulls on Western Australian (WA) nostalgia while integrating the vibrancy and valuable contribution older adults bring to WA. The first airing of the advertisement was well received by the target audience and reached over one million people.

In an unexpected turn of events, this year COVID-19 impacted the whole WA community. In this unique time, Injury Matters assessed areas of need for older adult community members and innovatively adapted Stay On Your Feet® deliverables to support those most at-risk. Initiatives, such as Community Connect, Facebook Live sessions and social media engagement reached over 13,000 people.

Through purpose, evidence and a collaborative approach, in 2020/2021 Injury Matters will continue to work to have a positive impact on the lives of older Western Australians by preventing falls.
